Region cuts infant care spaces in Elmira, delays program opening
The Region of Waterloo has delayed the opening of a new infant care program in Elmira and has cut back the number of spaces it will offer.
The classroom was to open in March with nine infant spots. The opening has been delayed to August and the number of spaces has been reduced to six to save about $130,000 in the regional budget.
The idea came from the chairs of the region’s three main committees.
“We’re suggesting that maybe we should slow down a little bit … approve six additions and move opening of the facility to August instead of March to coincide with the beginning of the school year,” said Coun. Geoff Lorentz.
